04 / GOOD TO KNOW
Everything you need to know before getting started.
Model Context Protocol is an open standard that connects AI assistants to external tools. This server acts as the bridge between your AI client and TIA Portal so it can read, write and work with your projects.
The MCP server runs on your local Windows machine and connects locally to TIA Portal. Your AI client may require internet access. Review its data settings to understand how project context is processed.
TIA Portal V17, V18 and V19 are supported. Earlier versions are not officially tested. TIA Portal must be installed and licensed on your Windows machine.
TIA Portal is a Windows application, so the MCP server must run on Windows. A Windows virtual machine can be used from a Mac.
The server uses the official Siemens Openness API. Check that your TIA Portal Engineering installation and license include Openness, and enable the required Windows user permissions.
Use an MCP-compatible AI client such as Cursor IDE or Claude Desktop. Configure the executable path in the client’s MCP settings.
You keep the version you have downloaded. Further updates may require an optional update plan. Your existing license does not expire.
A 14-day refund period applies if the server does not work with your TIA Portal installation. Contact support through the contact page for purchase and refund details.
